This week I was reading the book of Psalms, which made me think about how I approach my morning and night spare time.

Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Psalm 4:4
I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.Pslam 4:8
In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice; In the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch. Psalm 5:3

Three simple lessons:

Do not go to bed holding a grudge. Instead, search your own heart and sleep on it.

Sleep in peace, just as your child does, fully knowing that God has your back and will take care of your needs. Trust Him every day.

And the last one, which speaks the most to me right now: first thing in the morning, speak to Him. Be in expectation that He actually hears you and is looking forward to showing Himself in your life—just as we, as parents, look for opportunities to show our kids we care for them and their desires.

It seems like a simple cycle: we wake up and present our needs, then we get submerged in the chaos of daily tasks necessary for life with all that it involves, and then we go to bed, making sure we leave all stress behind because we know God is still in control. Then we repeat. Easier said than done, but we’d probably be better off if we tried to actually apply these simple routines.

Until the next one,
