Making Math Make Sense for Parents

My wife’s mission is to make today’s math easier for parents. With 200+ short videos, she breaks down all the new methodologies taught in most schools in a way that’s simple and relatable. If you're a parent wanting to understand your child’s math better, take a look!

During the COVID-19 lockdowns, my wife took on a project at the school where she worked in Panama. She was tasked with creating instructional videos to help parents understand how math is being taught these days. She went above and beyond, but since then, she has thought that this is a common question among parents involved in their kids' learning.

Fast forward a couple of years, and she has recorded over 200 short videos, walking parents through all kinds of math methodologies. Mention Singapore Math, Bridges Math, IB, and it's like speaking a foreign language for most parents.

Initially, I thought, "Oh no...this is just complicating math for all of us. Why have schools changed the way they teach?" But after editing that many videos, I learned that math hasn’t changed, of course. Now, though, these methods take into account different ways of thinking.

You can do math visually with shapes and forms, in your head, or by visualizing problems in a way that suits you. Finding the best way for a child to learn using their natural gifts, while challenging them to move forward, levels the ground for those who may not be naturally inclined toward math. I certainly could have used some of this back in school.

It’s not uncommon to talk with an older folk, show them some videos, and they immediately think, "Ha! That’s how I solve problems in my head!"

She’s definitely smarter than me. I want to create content too, but I don’t have the time currently, hence the inconsistency. She took three months and recorded all the videos, and now, lo and behold, she has a stand-alone product. Now, she just needs to work on distribution and marketing so people know about it, get more subscribers, gather feedback, improve, repeat, and pivot based on what people want and need.

Anyway, if you have children from Pre-K to 5th grade, go check it out! It’s a long-term project for her and a side hustle. She has a free tier where she shares content to raise thinkers and a paid subscription that covers math content. I think it’s pretty cool, but I’m definitely biased!

Until next time,
