Waking Up to Smiles, Trivial Tasks, and Moments Worth Having
We're wired to overlook the ordinary and repetitive aspects of these extraordinary moments because we understand that anything worth cherishing requires effort and sacrifice.
I'm undeniably missing out on one of the most incredible moments of the day: waking up my two-year-old daughter. While I make sure to help put her to bed every night and spend a considerable amount of time with her during the day, I've recently allocated the mornings solely for work, especially while she's been waking up later since my wife is on maternity leave.
It's during those mornings that she radiates pure happiness, just awakened and eagerly waiting, playing, or looking at books in her room until one of us decides to open her door. Then she will run towards you, hug you, and you are left with no option but to melt before her sweetest smile.
These heartwarming moments often come with mundane tasks, like changing diapers, engaging in silly disputes over her daily outfit, or other seemingly trivial matters. We're wired to overlook the ordinary and repetitive aspects of these extraordinary moments because we understand that anything worth cherishing requires effort and sacrifice.
I can't help but wonder to what extent we apply the same level of dedication to other habits that bring us joy or personal growth. Perhaps making the bed, for instance, can evoke a sense of accomplishment. Engaging in meditation on uncomfortable realities can lead to personal growth. Through prayer, we foster spiritual growth. Correcting our children is essential for them to become responsible adults. Listening intently enables us to learn. Even the act of doing the dishes contributes to a happy wife and a clean kitchen...and, more importantly, no cockroaches.
Until the next one,
