What would your response be if I asked you to take care of my three kids, ranging in age from 1 year old to 6 years old? I need you to look after them for an entire week while I am on a business trip. Would you step up and do it?

Let's be honest: most of us will either say a categorical NO, or we will try to find a solution that does not involve us. Can you imagine? Taking care of three kids who are not your own and who will, without a shadow of a doubt, drain all your remaining energy in the first two days.

Now... Imagine I tell you, if you take care of them, I will pay for your kid's college education, buy your dream house, cover all future medical expenses, and cancel all your debts. Likely, you will say HECK YEAH! In fact, I am willing to take care of them for two months while you also take a trip to Europe to backpack or do whatever you want. How else can I be of help to you?

This was an interesting reflection I heard over the weekend at the local church we are attending, and I thought some of you might enjoy it.

You see, when you find an object of extraordinary value, the real question is: what are YOU willing to sacrifice in order to acquire the valuable object? Jesus did not take into account his status as God, or the fact that we were rebellious and fixed on our own gain; he willingly decided to give himself for you and me so we all can enjoy the proximity and freedom of entering the presence of God at any moment we may please.

There is a price to pay and it is not easy; it's labor-intensive, it's painful, and likely most of the time it's not that glamorous, but you can be sure it is totally worth it. So, what are you willing to sacrifice in order to get that great treasure?

Until the next one,

J
